Adieu, Papandreou
In 1986 Stanley K. Sheinbaum, with Nathan Gardels riding shotgun, interviewed Greece Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou in Athens. While sitting at a cafe on the Piraeus wharf, the decided to put New Perspectives Quarterly into being. On June 26, 1996 Mr. Sheinbaum gave the following eulogy at Prime Minister Papandreou's funeral.
Athens - Andreas Papandreou was one year older than I am. At this moment of his death I realize more than ever how much my own life was intertwined with his and, perhaps more importantly, how much he set a standard for me in my professional and political life. And how I could never catch up for that one year lead he had.
