Epigrams on the Ephemeral Genre
These epigrammatic notes on the videosphere by French philosopher Regis
Debray are drawn from Eric Rauth's translation of Paradoxes of the Videosphere,
as yet unpublished in English.
Paris - The visual has subjugated the old elite guild
of writers who have traditionally been iconographic. In 1960 two "cultivated"
persons together at dinner were likely to speak about what they read.
In 1990 they may well discuss what they saw. Dinners in town perpetuate
the previous day's visual babble.
