Islam: The Postman of Civilization
Haris Silajdzic was prime minister of Bosnia from 1992 through 1994. Silajdzic,
whose father headed the largest Mosque in Bosnia and whose maternal grandfather
was a religious judge, has a Koranic education and studied in Libya. His
remarks here are adapted from a conversation with Flora Lewis, Paris-based
contributing editor of NPQ's weekly column, Global Viewpoint.

Iran, Egypt, Malaysia and Pakistan - all worlds in themselves - are trying
to step into modernity.
