Mikhail Gorbachev, the last Soviet leader, now leads International Green Cross.

Moscow - As early as November 1985, at our first summit, President Reagan and I made a statement that nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought. The International Green Cross is implementing a project called "The Legacy" that addresses the environmental consequences of the arms race and the Cold War. We have discovered how difficult it is to deal with that legacy and how many resources are required to mitigate the consequences.
