Carl Bernstein is the co-author, with Bob Woodward, of All the President's Men, a book that chronicles the Watergate scandal that the two journalists reported in the Washington Post and which led to the downfall of President Richard M. Nixon.
Bernstein's most recent book, with Marco Politi, is His Holiness: John Paul II and the Hidden History of Our Time (Doubleday, 1997). At Present, Bernstein is also a contributing editor of Vanity Fair and a consultant at CBS News. He spoke with NPQ Editor Nathan Gardels in late summer.
