Capitalism's Weakness

The crowning moment of the second half of the 20th century was the ending of the Cold War which enabled the world to move forward. Finally American's could thinks seriously about capitalism's weaknesses, but equally important also to deal more rationally with the international arrangements so essential to the world's stability. How far ahead could we have been on both counts if we had not waster all those energies and resources since the late '40s in a paranoid mode focusing on the fight against communism and the Soviet Union? Caution: the real cost of all that should not be perceived as financial or even as lost lives but rather as missed opportunities.
