The Implosion of Israel
As an American Jew I have been intensively concerned
about the achievement of peace in the Middle East. I was Bar Mitzvah'd
Orthodox in 1933, 15 years before the United Nations granted statehood
to Israel. What with the Holocaust as background the import of a homeland
for Jews was of obvious significance. For me Israel represented not only
a shelter, to put it mildy, but also an identity that was so essential
as a place for myself and for my people in the world. As they ears rolled
on, my pride in Israel grew dramatically. The military strength of the
people and the idea of Israel were making a mark. Time and again surrounding
Arabs tried to beat back those achievements, always unsuccessfully.
