NATO Victory in Kosovo Revalues Russian, Chinese Nukes
Yashushi Akashi, formerly the undersecretary general
of the United Nations who oversaw the UN-run elections in Cambodia and
the UN presence in Bosnia, is director of the Hiroshima Peace Institute.
Akashi is also co-chairman of the Tokyo Forum for Nuclear Non-Proliferation
and Disarmament, a global panel of independent experts set up by the Japanese
government to assess the dangers of nuclear war after the Indian and Pakistani
tests last year. The Forum issued its report in August. Akashi spoke with
NPQ editor Nathan Gardels in New York.
