How to Help Russia

Lech Walesa is the former President of Poland and the founding leader of the Solidarity movement that brought an end to communism in his country and a Nobel Peace Prize to him. His comments here are adapted from a conversation with NPQ in October.

Warsaw - While the Russian people today have the potential to enjoy freedom, they cannot do so because their economy is in ruins. To have a democracy, a country must have a good bank account. If the checks bounce, democracy's accounts will prove empty.
