The Confloundering Electorate
We Americans - especially our manufacturing successes - have considered
ourselves to be a highly pragmatic people. Unfortunately, the other side
of that coin is that we are basically a non-political people or in the deeper
sense a non-ideological people. Deep in the heart of that lies what goes
on in the universities today where the dominant positivistic social sciences
focus on research in the form of fact gathering and the proving of concepts.
Unfortunately the normative disciplines - especially philosophies - get
short shrift for their methods designed to focus on what should be, not
on what is.
