The View from Davos

NPQ editor Nathan Gardels, who has been attending the World Economic Forum for more than decade as a member of the Media Leader's Club, talked to some of the more interesting participants at Davos this year - Umberto Eco, MIT computer scientist Michael Dertouzos, King Abdullah and Indonesia's new president Abdurrahman Wahid . Their comments are excerpted below.

Davos - Thirty years ago, a Swiss professor by the name of Klaus Schwab organized what was then called the "European management seminar" in the Alpine resort of Davos, two hours up into the mountains from Zurich. The point was to gather Europe's top business and political leaders to address what French author Jean Jacques Servan-Schreiber called "the American challenge."
