Garbriel Garcia Marquez, Carlos Fuentes and Kenzaburo Oe
From the Rose Styron Conversations
Rose Styron, the noted poet, whose latest book is By
Vineyard's Light (Rizzoli, 1995), hosted the "Writer's World"
radio-interview program last year for Voice of America. On that program
she spoke with writers from around the world, including Carlos Fuentes
and Gabriel Garcia-Marquez, Latin America's Premier novelists, and Kenzaburo
Oe, the Japanese novelist who won the Nobel Prize in 1994.
Garcia-Marquez is best known for his classic One Hundred
Years of Solitude and Fuentes, a member of NPQ's advisory board, for his
many novels that have included The Death of Artemio Cruz and Terra Nostra.
Oe's most well-known works are Hiroshima Notes and Nip
the Buds, Shoot the Kids. Excerpts appear below.
